An Interview with Virginia Gildrie

The Gildries were a literacy team.  As the story goes, soon after Virginia started tutoring she took Gil along to help with chores.  Both were hooked.  And for 30 years they were at the center of the literacy cause in St. Petersburg.  Gil passed away in July 2005 and Virgina sold her home and moved to an assisted living center where she is busier than ever — tutoring students 5 days a week.  In 2003 the Gildries selfless dedication to literacy was recognized when they received the Governors "Points of Light" Award.  Wonderful people who changed more lives than we will ever know.

In this conversation, Virgina talks about the literacy problem in America and appeals for volunteers.  Listen.  Then give a part of yourself to the cause.
