This year, at the 43rd Annual Awards Dinner, The Literacy Council of St. Petersburg was graced by this year's guest speaker, the reigning Mrs. North America, Kellie Lightbourn. She delivered a very touching speech about her own personal experience with illiteracy and left many with tears in their eyes. All of the students were given the opportunity to take their picture with her. We thank
Mrs. North America for helping to present our program this year.
Every year, we present the Courtland Gildrie award to one of our tutors of exceptional service. This year's winner is James Gibbs. Jim has been a tutor since 2009 and has been tutoring at both Lakewood Community School every Monday and Wednesday evening. He also tutors at Tomlinson Adult Learning Center every Tuesday and Thursday morning. In addition to service to the St. Petersburg students, Jim travels to his home in Dunnellon and tutors every weekend with a long time student. Jim, you are an inspiration to us all, thank you and congratulations.
